Traditional Medication
The use of “traditional medicine” and traditional medicine has long been practiced throughout the world, both in the developing countries or in countries that have been developed. The history of medicine has shown that some traditional medicines proved the forerunner of modern medicine. An example is quinine and reserpine which long ago had been used as traditional medicine for certain diseases, but the dosage could not be determined that time.
As for now, the usage of traditional medicine or some even classified it as herbal medicine are consider as alternative medication. Even WHO recommends the use of traditional medicine including herbal medicine for public health, prevention and treatment of disease, particularly for chronic, degenerative diseases and cancer. This shows support from WHO and message from them to go back to nature. Yet, these traditional medicine should pass some serial of test to avoid side effects, so its important consulting your medical consultant before buying it.
At least there are three things that must be considered in making the standard of traditional medicine. First, security, namely the extent to which traditional medicine is safe for consumption by the public and does not cause side effects detrimental to health.
Second, efficacy, what benefits can be obtained from consuming traditional medicine. Is the cure or for prevention only. Finally, the quality, the outstanding traditional medicine should not only be safe but also have good quality and maintained.
Because this standard is still not there, until now categorized as a traditional medicine alternative complementary medicine. Where its use is combined with conventional medicine or at least on the basis of medical diagnosis.
